Limnological study and evaluation of Sanandaj dam reservoir in Kurdistan Province was conducted from summer of 2015 to spring of 2016. Fish sampling was performed seasonally and by gill net and an electrofishing in the river. A total of 10 fish species were selected from different families for feeding regime assessment, which included Alburnus sellal, Barbus lacerta, Capoeta trutta, C. saadii, Carrasius auratus, Cyprinion macrostomum, Garra rufa, Hemiculter leucisculus, Pseudorasbora parva and Oxynoemachilus kermanshahensis were used for the study. Altogether, 184 fish samples were examined for feeding regime status. Food items identified in the gut contents include Diaphanosuma brachyrum, Bosmina longirostris, Cypris balanus, Acartia, Cyclups sternu, Daphnia pulex, Nmatoda, Mesocyclops sp., Cyclups scutfer, Daphnia sp., Daphnia culculata, Daphnia longispina, Ponpholyx sulcata from zooplankton group and phytoplankton groups including Spirogyra, Stephanodiscus, Skeletonema, Cymatopleura, Oscillatoria, and Naviculla were found in fish gut contents. The results showed that there was a correlation between the feeding intensity, Gastrosomatic index (GaSI) and the Gonadosomatic index (GSI) of fish in the dam, which was due to the approach of their reproductive period, and the significant difference between them was found in different seasons (p<0.05). The results of the study on the composition and species diversity of water Azad dam phytoplankton showed that 54 species were identified. In this study, six groups of phytoplankton Bacillariophyta, Chrysophyta, Pyrophyta, Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta and Euglenophyta were found with 20, 1, 9, 6, 16, and 2 species, respectively. Of the zooplankton group, 25 species belonging to the three taxa Copepoda, Cladocera and Rotifera were identified. The results showed that some of the planktonic species present in the dam did not correspond to the food items identified in the fish diet, which could be due to the availability of food items, fast digestion for single cell, time and place of sampling, pattern distribution and density of nutritional creatures, sampling methods and ecological conditions of the region. Based on ISI (Important Species Index) the results showed that the genus of Bosmina, Daphnia, Diaphnosoma, Spirogyra were identified as important species in the gut of fish in the dam, but monthly sampling was required for accurate evaluation. The results showed that A. sellal, H. leucisculus, C. aratus in the Azad dam had a Carnivorous of zooplaplankton, species of C. saadii, C. trutta herbivorous diets in which could reason for the availability of food, the topography and ecology of the area and the sampling method. Based on the Vacuity index (VI), Carrasius auratus in fullness stomach; A. sellal, C. saadii, H. leucisculus in the relative fullness stomach, and C. trutta in low fullness stomach groups, respectivelly. The study of Condition factor (k) in Alburnus sellal (0.97), Hemiculter leucisculus (0.97), Capoeta saadii (1.1) and Carrasius auratus (1.9) showed that these fish in the Sanandaj Azad dam has good growth, while the Capoeta trutta have coefficient of 0.47, indicating that this species has moderate growth, which could be consistent with the growth factor (b) of the fish. The results showed that the intensity of nutrition index in the species and in different seasons was due to fluctuations which could be due to the availability of food, feeding bed, season, time and place of sampling, temperature, pattern of distribution and density of nutritional organisms (prey ) and other environmental parameters.
