Promoting seeurity in the Persian Gulf is a vital interest for both the regional states and outside powers. This paper will argue that the Asian security system and its development offer many useful ideas for the construction of a Persian Gulf security system. On current bedrock security systems and possible future cooperative systems, the Asian experience is replete with useful models for the Persian Gulf. Both a Persian Gulf-wide forum and a more inclusive body would add valuable layers of security and help stabilize a very important region of the world.
