The rol e of Chlrlllrydia p neullloniae in asthma has drawn much attention in rece n t years. In this study we assessed the prevalence of C.P lielli!Jlilliae infections in patients with chronic stab le and acute exacerbation of asthma an d compared it with normal population. Twen ty adult patien ts with ch ronic stable asthma and 21 pa tien ts wi th ac ute exacerbations o f asthma and 41 matched control subjects were studie d for presen ce o f C. pnetlll10niae using ce ll culture. T his study suggests that p ositive resu lts o f C. pneumoniae culture are associa ted with both chronic stable and acute exace rba tio n o f asthma.
