4- (Chloroacetyl)d iphenyl ether (1 ) was synthesized from chloro ace ty l chloride and diphenyl et her in the presence of AlCb as catalyst in a Friedel-Crafts reac t ion. Subsequent ly, its keto oxime (II) derivative was prepared . T hen 3 new subst itu ted 4- (alkylam inoisonitr osoacety l)diphenyl ether ligands derived from 4-(ph enoxy)p henyloxylohydro xym oyl chloride and corr esponding a rnines were synthesized. The follow ing ar omat ic and alipha t ic amines were used for the ligandset hanolam ine, 2-a mino-4-me thylphe nol, and 2(am inomethyl ) pyridine. Mononu clear or binuclear Co( II), Ni(II ), Cu(II ), and Cd( II) complexes of the ligands were sy nt hesized. T he struct ures of th ese ligands were identified by FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and 13C_NMR spectral data and elemental ana lysis , a nd t he st ruct ures of th e complexes were identified by FT-IR,ICP-AES, elemental analysis, and magnetic susceptibility measurements .
