4(5)-Chloro- imidazole-5(4)-carboxaldehyde derivatives are important precursors for the preparation of biologically active compounds. We developed a simple, novel, and efficient method for the synthesis
of these compounds. The chemistry described is amenable to large-scale use and is flexible enough to allow the preparation of analogs .
