Réflexion méthodologique sur le traitement lexicographique des expressions idiomatiques contenant le mot « main » dans Le Petit Robert et Le Petit Larousse illustré

Throughout our research, we learned that the phenomenon of idiomatic expressions has not received the adequate attention from the French linguists who specialize in semantics or phraseology. The problem is more apparent among lexicographers, where we observe the scarcity of dictionaries on idiomatic expressions. an‎d the very few that exist have not been comprehensive. In this paper, we will approach the relationship between lexicography and phraseology and then we will try to highlight the strengths and weaknesses in the way they address these expressions. We will try to answer the following questions: What is the status of idiomatic expressions in a dictionary? an‎d how did the aforementioned dictionaries treat idiomatic expressions? Are they complete and methodolgical treatments which can be relied upon by users or not?
