1.1 The Problem of the Study and its Significanc Teaching is an art. Even in learner-centred classrooms, the teacher is the maestro of the teaching/learning process. Teaching is not merely methods and techniques for presenting a certain material. It involves a number of competencies and aspects among which is classroom management (henceforth CM). CM is whatever a teacher does to prepare the lesson, the environment, and the students for learning. As Evertson (2009: Int.) vividly states, it is the orchestration of the learning environment of a group of individuals within a classroom setting. It is not limited to teacher actions to control behaviour but extends to their actions to create, implement and maintain a favourable learning environment within the classroom
