The Portrait of Women in Hardy s and Lawrence s Novels

This research is based upon a thesis carrying the same title. The thesis shows how Thomas Hardy and D. H. Lawrence presented women in their novels. Four novels were chosen: The Return of the Native an‎d Jude the Obscure from Thomas Hardy; Sons and Lovers and The Rainbow from D. H. Lawrence. Certain female characters were chosen and analysed. In this research a chapter of the mentioned thesis is selected. The chapter analyses three characters in D. H. Lawrence s Sons and Lovers (1913) which is his most autobiographical1 and the most popular novel.
