    In the first half of the nineteenth century, there was a considerable amount of literary works which reflect many of the anxieties of the age , consequently the fallen woman became a Victorian obsession . Falleness ( female pre -marital sexual experience ) was seen as a precursor to ruin and prostitution . Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870) explored the social and economic upheavals which had an effect on the lives of private individuals , concentrating the evidence of the problems and making them more visible . Prostitution run parallel to fears of social breakdown , so , the greatest novelist of the age decided to offer fallen women home with the help of the wealthy philanthropist Angela Burdett- Coutts (1814 - 1906) . His attitude is of particular interest to the modern reader , combining as it does , a literary portrayal of falleness in his novels Oliver Twist (1837 - 9) and David Copperfield (1849 - 50) and a practical approach through his work with repentant women at Urania Cottage , Home for Homeless Women . The aim of this research is to discuss the plea of fallen women in the Victorian age . Women forms a significant portion of society , so, one need to tackle the reasons of their fall and the solution to make them reintegrate into society .
