Issues and objectives of Islamic religious discourse in the Jordanian daily press: an analytical study

The aim of the present study is to identify the Islamic religious discourse issues and objectives in the Jordanian daily newspapers. To that end, the researcher used the descriptive method using sample survey of religious discourse as published in Jordanian daily newspapers (al-Rai, Addoustour and al-Ghad) featured on the Religious Section periodically published every Friday morning. Content analysis was the instrument used in the study. Some of the results reached are: First: there is clear difference in percentages of religious discourse issues covered, implying lack of a clear strategy for publishing issues on the Islamic religious discourse. Second: Much of issues were insufficiently addressed with some aspects given weight more than others. Third, the three newspapers (al-Rai, Addoustour and al-Ghad) concentrated on few specific goals excluding others. Fourth, each newspaper had one goal in focus, to which it gave the most space, while disregarded or marginalized other goals as showed by the percentage of the content covered. Fifth, paying attention to specific goals deprive other goals essential to the Islamic religious discourse the consideration they deserve leading to incomplete introduce of the Islamic religious discourse. Sixth: scarcity of issues related to community reform and problems. Seventh: imbalanced objectives of the Islamic religious discourse as published by the Jordanian daily newspapers on the individual or collective newspaper levels.
