The Semantic Differences among the Words Signifying Naseeb in the Holy Quran

There are various words in the Arabic lexicon, which signify the meaning of the word Naseeb (share) in Arabic. The dictionaries did not explored the minute distinctions among these words and only provided synonyms for it. Although some language references discussed some of the semantic differences among these words, like Al Askari in his book, but he did not study the words within a context. The best text that helps distinguish among these words is most probably the Holy Quran which is the decisive criterion when one is faced with synonymous words where it becomes challenging to arrive at accurate distinctions among them. Exploring synonymous words in a highly expressive text and in various linguistic environments would allow the researcher to arrive at conclusions that would be otherwise difficult to reach through dictionaries or the books of Quran exegesis that tackle the word out of its natural context, and where it acquires new senses in other contexts. The research endeavors at exploring the opinions of the linguists, lexicographers, semioticians and exegetists regarding the words in question. The researcher discusses their suggestions in light of the instances where these words are mentioned in the Holy Quran according to a unique linguistic criterion, through which the researcher tackles any obscurities and points at any aberrations in the opinions found in the ideas of those scholars. The conclusion of the research is that distinguishing between the synonymous words of “share” is through determining the size of the proportion and considering the material or the source of the “share” without overlooking the context.
