The Problem of the Concept of the State in Ibn Khaldun's Thought

The study examines the problem of the country concept in the intellectual propositions presented by Ibn Khaldun in the framework of his analysis and representation of the development of human societies. The study also investigates the following hypothesis “Ibin Khaldun’s intellectual propositions provoked problematic thoughts regarding the concept of the country in the Islamic political mindset”. It is also built on the analytical and inductive approaches in discussing the problem of the country concept in Iban Khaldun’s intellect. This Study concludes to a number of findings most notably; that the country in Ibn Khaldun’s intellect is the main pivot which Ibn Khaldun’s research and theories are based upon, not tribalism, or the conflict between the Bedouins and the urbanized as some researchers believe. Ibn Khaldun is attracted and reflects his political reality in this realm to a point where he devotes only a few lines in his preface to talk about the ideal country or utopian city this city which is “to the philosophers, rare and farfetched reality, but spoken of from the aspect of assumption and appreciation” as he explains, while for him the majority of the parts relevant to the country is based on analyzing the realistic models in the Arab west.
