Synthesis of New Nicotinic Acid Derivatives

The Nicotinic acid has been refluxed with thionyl chloride to give acid chloride, which has been converted to acid hydrazide by treatment with hydrazine hydrate. Schiff’s bases have been synthesized by treatment of acid hydrazide with aldehyde or ketone ,then the cyclization of Schiff’s bases have been achieved by acetic acid to give –N-aceyl -1،3،4-oxadiazole derivatives . Also acid hydrazide converted to -e-marcapto-1،3،4-oxadiazole by refluxing with CS^2 and KOH in absolute ethanol ,then converted thiol group to carbonyl group by treatment with H^2O^2 and formic acid . IR, U.V. Spectra and Rf characterized the prepared compounds.
