Word Matching in Document Images Shaimaa khudhair salih

An approach to Arabic word image matching based on Ulam s distance is proposed in this research to facilitate the detection and location of the user-specified words in the document images. Preprocessing such as thresholding, noise removing and applying smearing to the binarized document image is first done before the line and word segmenting, then the Ulam s distance is utilized to measure the distance between the template image and the word image extracted from the document image. Experimental results in the application of detecting the user-specified words from both Arabic document images show that it is a promising approach for word image matching. many experiments were run to test different documents and templates and the results show the success of the proposed algorithm
