Background & Objective: To evaluate the role of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery ( ESS ) in excision of inverted papillomas , and to compare the recurrence rate in this approache with that of external one . Background: Assessment of new surgical technique in the management of the most important benign para-nasal sinuses tumor. Materials & Methods: Retrograde study on 17 cases of inverted papillomas admitted to AL MOSSATE university hospital between 1999-2008 .Unilateral nasal obstruction was noted in all patients ,unilateral nasal discharge in 5 patients , ocular disturbances in 3 patients , in addition to other symptoms . 13 patients had been operated by ESS and 4 by ESS with Caldwell-Luc approach . Results: follow-up for periods ranging between 1 and 10 years with a median of 31 months ( by nasal endoscopy and CT-scan . biopsy was done when needed ) showed recurrence in 4 cases ( 23.52%) .Recurrence occurred in frontal sinus in one patient, and in ehtmoid and maxillary sinus in other tow, while pathology showed foci of SSC in the forth. Conclusion: Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is an effective way in treating inverted papilloma with recurrence rate nearly resemble that in external approaches .
