A Review of Application of Low Frequency Seismic Method to Study Hydrocarbon Reservoirs and to Determine the Best Locations for Exploration wells

Considering the advancement of human life by increasing energy expenditure, researchers have always prompted to new technologies, less cost and time to meet human needs. Today, oil and gas industry increasingly uses modern exploration methods of hydrocarbon resources. The use of low-frequency seismic waves (microtremors) as a new method for studying of hydrocarbon reserves as well as finding appropriate locations for drilling exploration wells is introduced. In this method, the researchers study the peaks in the frequency range of 1 - 6 Hz. Compared with conventional seismic method, this method does not use any artificial source for the creation of vibration, but uses the waves of the natural environment, which cause to reduce the cost and also lack of damage to the environment. In this paper, we define and explain the nature of the waves and the results of the studies carried out in this regard in oil fields of Iran and elsewhere
