Extending machine life and daily growing car traffic in cities which is one of the major problem in many cities has made traffic security of citizens in the streets as a significant issue that is considered by urban planners and city managers so that the recurrence of accidents or human or financial damage would be reduced. This factor, either intentionally or unintentionally, has caused city planners to prioritize vehicles in their planning. Thus, now it is tried to use new methods in dealing with traffic jams and intersections which create greater security for people. One of these methods is designing pedestrian underpass bridges on the way vehicles move. This study aims to investigate citizensʹ satisfaction of the quality of the underpasses in Mashhad ring road. The research is a descriptive-applied study and the required data were gathered using library and field methods. The research population includes daily users of Mashhad underpasses of which 250 people are selected randomly by Cochran formula. They were also interviewed and asked to complete the questionnaire. The results show that the level of citizen satisfaction of the quality and quantity of the underpasses is low in terms of indices such as input and output, ease of access, security, and lighting quality. This reflects lack of attention to optimal designing of such underpasses based on variables like entrance, lighting, interior dimensions, materials, access, security, and furniture.
