    Abstract- Initiation of damage and its progression in laminated composites containing central open hole is studied in this paper. Hashin failure criteria are used to obtain the damage initiation of composite laminates. The progressive damage model of laminated composites available in Abaqus software is used to capture the various in-plane failure mechanisms. A cohesive zone model consisting of a progressive model is employed to simulate the delamination occurring in cohesive layers. The model is applied to the progressive failure analysis of AS4/PEEK composite laminates subjected to in-plane tensile loading. It is shown that using cohesive zone to simulate delamination failure causes more accurate results. Keywords –, , ,
