Abstract- In the present research, curing micro-residual stress concentration in polymer composites is predicted
theoretically. For this purpose, a three phase composite has been considered includes fiber, matrix as well as the
interphase between them. First, a review on the available three-dimensional energy method based analytical solution
for micro-thermal residual stresses is presented. Analytical results show that a shear stress concentration occurs at
vicinity of composite edge that jumps importantly due to a decrease in interphase thickness. Imperfect adhesion has
less stress concentration in comparison with perfect bonding conditions. High mismatch in coefficient of the thermal
expansion and Young’s modulus of the fiber and matrix affect the shear stress distribution along the fiber length,
especially near the fiber ends, while the difference between the Poisson’s ratios of the composite constituents has not
any significant role.
