In this paper, an optimal Tilt-Integral-Derivative (TID) Controller is designed for a single-stage DC-DC boost converter based DC micro grid connected PV system. The DC-DC boost converter is responsible for boosting the PV panel voltage, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and delivering regulated DC output voltage. Due to variation of solar radiation, necessity for MPPT and load resistance change in DC micro grid, it is necessary to regulate the output of the DC-DC boost converter. The regulation of output DC voltage should be provided with low overshoot response for system parameters change. This will guarantee the safe and appropriate operation of DC loads without their disconnection from the DC grid during system variables rapid change. For this purpose, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used in this paper for tuning the parameters of a TID controller. Integral of Time Weighted Squared error (ITSE), is used as a fitness function for GA. Also, GA is used for tuning the parameters of a Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID) Controller. This paper presents a comparative study on the performance of GA based optimally designed TID and FOPID under variation of solar irradiation. The Integral of Time weighted Squared Error (ITSE), Maximum percentage Overshoot (Mp) and rising Time (Tr) are used for comparison of the controllers.
