Iron deficiency due to increasing the concentration of bicarbonate, reduces
photosynthesis, pigment synthesis, and other metabolic disorders. Therefore the iron
deficiency causes the color of young leaves turn to yellow which is called chlorosis. Thus
a fast operation applying a synthetic fertilizers is essential to correct this deficiency after
the symptoms onset. Iron is not transported within the plant unless using, a continuous
iron source. Iron dissolution occurs through chelate in calcareous soils. The usage
chelating agent in agricultural fertilizers enhance iron absorption through increasing the
concentration gradient of releasable iron. One of important applicable chelates is
ethylenediaminedi(o-hydroxy- phenylacetic acid) (EDDHA) [or N,N'-ethylene-bis-2- (ohydroxy
phenyl) glycine (EHPG)]. Synthesizing of this valuable material could be
performed by various methods such as cyanidation technique. The aim of this study is
synthesized EDDHA by two different methods and compared used methods. In order to
achive this purpose, EDDHA was synthesized with the using of two varied carbonyl
compounds, phenol and ethylenediamine in alkaline condition. The techniques which are
used in this study carried out without cyanidation. Reaction progress was controlled by
Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and
mass spectroscopy (MS) data confirmed the production of the product. Interperation of
these analyzing spectra have many new results in this regard.
