Machine-to-machine (M2M) networks often serve mission-critical applications in our daily life. Maintaining nodes connectivity is crucial for M2M networks to accomplish their tasks effectively. In this study, the authors focus on exploiting a mathematical relation for probability of connectivity. The aim of this study is to determine the precise mathematical relations in such a way that any network designer can predict network behavior. We obtain the probability of connectivity in a rectangular field of interest (FoI) with a probabilistic approach. This relation used to determine the optimum communication radius of each sensor and total number of nodes. Using this relation, power consumption can be saved. In the following, the network behavior in terms of energy consumption has been investigated. With simulation results, network parameter can be determined in terms of connectivity and energy consumption.
