Contrary to many countries, dubbing has a long history in Iran and audiovisual translation is the focus of several academic conferences every year. This research concentrated to identify the interlingual strategies employed to translate English feature films in the science fiction action genre into Persian and to determine their frequency, as well. This study was a corpus-based analysis of the dubbing strategy conducted on a comparative, descriptive, non-judgmental procedure, which was carried out on an English-Persian parallel corpus of three feature films in the science fiction action genre. The theoretical framework employed in this research wasbased onDelabastita’s (1989) classification of audiovisual translation strategies. The obtained results indicated that all Delabastita’s proposed strategies were applicable to the dubbing films with some degree of variation of distribution in the science fiction action genre.Repetitio, with a distinguishably high rate of occurrenceat 41.70%, was the most frequently used strategy in all dubbing films in the science fiction action genre from English to Persian in Iran cinema context and Substitutio, Detractio, Adiectio and Transmutatio were placed in stages 2-5. The researchers concluded that the science fiction action genre in dubbing film played a crucial role in the variation of the used strategy. Therefore there is a significant relationship between film’s type and translation strategies and dubbing films are influenced by several constraints and strategies which make this kind of translation very different from the literary one.
