Empowerment and Body Culture: Negotiating the Female Objective-Subjective Somaesthetics through Sport

Potentially representing the individual and social identity through corporeality makes body an alluring discourse. Historically, the females are more involved in somaesthetics affairs. Amongst the whole tricks, they try sport as a modern and healthy one to achieve the goal. The present study aims at negotiating the female objective-subjective somaesthetics through sport to express empowerment. It was a qualitative content analysis study using a directed content analysis approach to disclose the concepts. Seven adult housewives were selected purposefully in the body building centers. The research instrument was semi-structured interview. The results showed that the attention-getting, and social positioning followed by the desires of local thinness or enlargement constructed sport only as a medium far from sport functions. Overall, Sport can mutually influence the improvement of objective-subjective somaesthetics but it is not observed in the sport centers unfortunately. Apparently, the instructions of sport advertising and sport centers must be reconsidered to cover the sport objective-subjective functions.
