انديشيدن در مورد فضاهاي معماري به صورت مستقل از عوامل مرتبط با طراحي نيست. به اين معنا كه هر ايده و تفكر در مورد معماري نياز به ابزار و وسيله¬اي دارد كه نمود عيني پيدا كند و قابل درك براي سايرين باشد. در اين ميان دياگرام ها به عنوان زير شاخه اي از تفكر گرافيكي داراي اهميت فراواني هستند. دياگرام زباني ترسيمي است كه نحوه صحيح سازماندهي فضاهاي طرح را به نمايش مي گذارد. دياگرام ها نقش كليدي در شكل گيري طرح و تكميل فرآيند طراحي در مراحل اوليه طراحي دارند. طراحان در هنگام طراحي از دياگرام¬هاي متفاوتي در هنگام فكر كردن به اين مسائل بهره مي¬برند. به گونه¬اي كه معمار مي¬تواند در همان مراحل اوليه عيب ها و كمبود¬هاي طرح خود را شناسايي و در جهت رفع آن تلاش كند. در اين مقاله تلاش شده است با رويكردي تحليلي- تطبيقي، بستري مناسب براي شناخت مسئلۀ جايگاه دياگرام و تاثير در طراحي معماري فراهم شود. بررسيها نشان از تاثير بكارگيري دياگرام ها در سهولت و شفافيت روند طراحي دارد.
