حمام هاي تاريخي عليرغم در برداشتن ارزش هاي معماري،بوم آورانه، اقليمي-زيست محيطي، فناورانه و ... با جريان يافتن و رسوخ ديدگاه هاي مدرن و محصولات آن به زندگي (همانند استقرار حمام در خانه ها)، به تدريج به فراموشي سپرده شده اند و نهايتاً در مسير اضمحلال قرار گرفته اند.تخريب حمام مصباح در شهر كرج مربوط به دوران قاجاريه، در ميان آثار حفاظت شده پيرامون آن از نمونه هاي قابل ذكر است.تعداد قابل ملاحظه اي از اين حمام ها كه منعكس كننده بخشي از فرهنگ جاري در سرزمين ماست قابليت حفاظت، مرمت و احياء را داشته تا ضمن دعوت از كاربران و گردشگران، آموزه هاي قابل اعتنايي را به منظور كاربرد در زندگي امروزي در اختيار قرار دهد.تدقيق در كليات و اجزاء حمام هاي تاريخي در ايران نكاتي را پيش روي نهاده تا تأمل بر آن ها فرصت هايي براي كاربرد اين موارد در زندگي امروز فراهم آورد.سيري در تجربيات حاصل از حضور نگارندگان در اين بناها، مطالعات مكتوب و بررسي توصيفي- تحليلي مدارك موجود، مسير طي شده در اين تحقيق بوده كه به مدد آن ها نكاتي در جهت تغيير كاربري و احياء آن بناها حاصل شده است.
