هويت كالبدي از نظر مفهومي با اصطلاحات شخصيت و حس مكان مترادف بوده و درارتباط با محله، با موضوعات بسياري از جمله ساكنين محله، باورها، شيوه زيست، آرمان ها، فرهنگ، جهان بيني و... مرتبط و غير قابل تفكيك است.در جامعه امروز شهري براي دستيابي به توسعه پايدار، محله بنيادي ترين عنصر شهري و حلقه واسط بين شهر و شهروندان است. هر محله با ارايه خدمات روزمره مورد نياز و با ايجاد نمادهاي محله اي و ويژگي هاي خاص موجب مي شد ساكنان آن نوعي احساس تعلق و نوعي هويت داشته باشند تا جايي كه هر شهروند با نام محله اي كه در آن مي زيسته شناخته مي شد.ضرورت شناخت مفاهيم فضا از يك سو ، شناخت ويژگي هاي فرهنگي، بومي و تاريخي محله از ديگر سو و نيز معيارهاي شناخت استخوانبندي مي تواند ما را به ساخت الگوهاي ذهني رهنمون شده و توانايي شناسايي عناصر استخوانبندي محله را ممكن سازد.اين امر تعريف دستور زبان و واژگان ساخت محله را هموار ساخته و كاربست آنها را براي عينيت بخشيدن به الگوهاي ذهني ميسر مي سازد.در اين مقاله تلاش شده تا به برخي سوالات جامع همانند؛ مفهوم محله،ابعاد،عناصر و ويژه گي هاي كالبدي آن،نقش هويت و تعلق اجتماعي در مفهوم محله،مهمترين عوامل معيارهاي تشكيل دهنده هويت محله اي مي باشد.
