In this paper, by using the digital image correlation (DIC) as an optical method and the incremental hole drilling method, residual stresses in laminated polymer composites have been studied. In previous studies, the rosette strain gauge has been used to measure the released strain values around the edge of the hole. The released strain gradients around the hole are too intense and strain gauges are located in a distance far from that location. Therefore, the measured strains are a rough average value of an intense variation of strain under the strain gage area. In this study, strain values released in close areas of the hole were measured by using DIC method. For compare the results, the available results by the Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) provided. The good similarity of the order of the residual stress results between DIC and CLT methods has been found.
