(Conserving Ecological Values of Wastelands Through Temporary Urbanism (Case study: Bremen, Germany

Wastelands which are often located in strategic areas of cities have been created mainly after world war II when the loss of traditional industries created derelict zones. These spaces have always been great challenge for urban planners and de-signers. Many of decision makers proposed transformation for these sites, while this measure has negative effect on their ecological value. Temporary urbanism with great economic, social, political and ecological benefits can be the alternative way for these sites and can regenerate them without any effect on the ecological situation. The case study in the city of Bremen proves this point and shows that in the area used for temporary purposes, habitats and ecological value of the site were protected. The research then shows that using temporary urbanism for waste-lands in cities can protect the ecological values of these strategic lands.
