1,3,5-Triazines are important products of modern organic chemistry. They are widely used
as intermediates in dye chemistry, paint and varnish, and pharmaceutical industries, as
herbicides and as monomers for the synthesis of thermostable polymers,and in several other
branches of the national economy.The most promising method for the industrial synthesis of
1,3,5-triazines is the cyclotrimerisation of compounds containing a nitrogen-carbon triple
bond,since this reaction usually occurs selectively to give high yields of the final products [1].
Among a wide variety of heterocycles that have been explored for developing
pharmaceutically importantmolecules, such as organic compounds containing triazinering
[2].Tri-substituted 1,3,5-triazines such as 2,4,6-tris(phenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine, are known as one
of the oldest classes of organic compounds.These compounds have been used as subunits in
the formation of supramolecular structures [3].In this research, unexpected novel
cyclotrimerization of aryl cyanate gave 2,4,6-triaryloxy-l,3,5-triazines with excellent yield.
No special catalyst is used in this reaction.
