2,3-Dihydroquinazolinones are a class of heterocycles that attracted much attention because they have been reported to possess a wide range of pharmaceutical activities including antifertility, antibacterial, antitumor and antifungal [1]. Several methods have been reported for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolinones. The typical procedure for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones involves the condensation reaction of anthranilamide with aldehyde or ketone using acids as a catalyst under various conditions [2,3]. Organic reactions in aqueous media have attracted much attention because (i) water induces unique reactivity and selectivity that are not observed for reactions in organic media and (ii) water as solvent reduces the use of harmful organic solvents and may lead to the development of environmentally friendly chemical processes [4]. In this work, we report a simple and practical metal-free method for the synthesis of 2,3- dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones by the cyclocondensation of anthranilamide withaldehydes using tirbromide supported on Fe3O4magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4-Br3) as arecyclable organocatalyst in water at 80 oCtemperature.
