Manganese dioxide (MnO2) is one of the most attractive inorganic materials because of its structural flexibility, ecological and economical compatibility, excellent chemical and the high surface area. Hence, MnO2 finds application in many fields such as molecular/ion sieves and removal of heavy metal ions [1]. The α-MnO2nanorods were prepared by a hydrothermal method [2]. The surface of α-MnO2nanorods was modified chemically with L-valine amino acid by solvothermal strategy. Then poly(vinyl alcohol)/α-MnO2-L-valinenanocomposites (NCs) containing 1, 3 and 5 wt% of modified α-MnO2nanorodswere prepared through ultrasound-assisted technique and characterized.Following, effects of α-MnO2-L-valine nanorods on the properties of NCs such as mechanical and thermal properties were studied. Finally, adsorption behavior of NC 3 wt% was investigated as an adsorbent for sorption of Pb(II) ions. It showed good adsorption potential for the removal of Pb(II)in aqueous solution.
