In general, various supports have been employed to fabricate heterogeneous Pd catalysts
such as carbon [1], ionic liquids [2], polymers [3], molecular sieves (SBA-15 and MCM-41)
[4,5], and and etc. In this study, mesoporous MCM-41 has been considered as a very good
support for Pd complex. The reason for the use of mesoporous MCM-41 as a good support is
that it possess thermal, mechanical and chemical stability. It also has extremely high surface
area (1000 m2g-1), and large channels from 1.5 to 10 nm, ordered in a hexagonal array and
large pore volume, which allows for the easy diffusion of substrates to the active sites. A
(Palladium S-methylisothiourea) complex supported on functionalized MCM-41 was prepared
by a post-grafting method and considered as efficient catalyst for the C-C cross coupling
reactions between various aryl halides and sodium tetraphenylborate. Also this catalyst shows
good reactivity towards amination of aryl halides. The nanocatalyst was characterized by
Analysis (TGA), (XRD), (SEM/EDS), Fourier Transform (FTIR), (ICP) and
(TEM)techniques It was also found the catalyst is active, stable and reusable (figure 1).
