This study describes the antibacterial and antifungal activities of Gleditsia Caspica fruits essential oil. This research is the first report of the antifungal effect of this essential oil against Pyricularia oryzae that is considered as one of the most important diseases of rice (rice blast disease), because of its worldwide distribution and high degree of pathogenicity. Antimicrobial activity was tested against 14 microorganisms using the disk diffusion method and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) technique. Essential oil obtained by hydro-distillation from fruits of Gleditsia Caspica was analysed by using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS). In total, fifteen components were identified representing 95.89 % of the total oil. The major constituents of the oil were Heneicosane (37.14 %), Tricosane (19.79 %), Nonadecane (19.28 %), Docosane (4.50 %) and Eicosane (4.28 %). Also, Gleditsia Caspica fruits essential oil demonstrated moderate to good antimicrobial activities. Gleditsia Caspica fruits essential oil exhibited good antifungal activity especially against fungus Pyricularia oryzae which can apply as a potential source of bio pesticide for economical and environmentally friendly pest control strategies.
