The iron and steel industry is typical high energy consumption and high pollution industry. The energy efficiency improvement in the iron and steel industry is very important and urgent. Aiming at finding energy-saving potential for steel plants, the evaluation methods and indexes of energy efficiency are discussed. Hierarchical and modular energy efficiency evaluation system for iron and steel production process is established. The multistage energy efficiency index is proposed. In conjunction with energy consumption calculation model and process characteristics of iron and steel production, energy efficiency evaluation and optimization software is developed, which can be used for analyzing energy consumption in detail. With the help of software, reasons for low energy efficiency can be identified and system solutions for energy efficiency optimization are provided, which can promote energy conservation and emission reduction, reducing cost and increasing benefit for steel plants.
