The Role of Shame and Guilt Emotions and Moral Disengagement in Predicting Marital Adjustment

The main objective of the current study was investigating the role of shame and guilt pronenessand moral disengagementin predictingmarital adjustment. The design of the study was descriptive-correlative. Using simple randomized sampling 150 individuals (75 females and 75 males) of all people living in Ardabil city were selected to participate in the study. All participants were asked to complete the following measures; Spanier’sDyadic Adjustment scaleTangney’s TOSCA-3 and research made questionnaire of moral disengagement. Descriptive and inferential statistic indicators were used to analyze the collected data. The results of regression and correlation analysis suggested a negative relationship between marital adjustment and guilt and shame and moral disengagement. In addition,shame and guilt proneness factors showed a negative correlation with marital adjustment suggesting that the increase in shame and guilt proneness results in decrease in marital adjustment.
