TITANATE CONVERSION COATINGAS AN A NEW PRETREATMENT FOR THE ELECTROLESS PLATING ON AM60B MAGNESIUM ALLOY

A titanate conversion coating as an environmentally-friendly pre-treatment layer introduced for electroless Ni-P plating on AM60B magnesium alloy. The obtained Ni-P coating was so smooth, compact and pore-free which indicate that the titanate coating has acted as a suitable pre-layer for the electroless plating on the alloy. Furthermore, the formation of titanate conversion coating with the cracking morphology increases the mechanical interlocking of the Ni-P coating and substrate. The corrosion resistance of the alloy was improved significantly by applying the Ni-P coating.
