The effects of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate surface active agent with various concentrations 0–100 ppm on the mass and heat transfer characteristics in a glassy cylinder airlift reactor with coated shell to isolate and temperature control of liquid were investigated. The rang of superficial gas velocity is 0.06 to 0.3 m/s and mass and heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing of aerating flowrate. The initial liquid temperature and oxygen concentration were adjusted at 30 ᵒc and 0.2 mg/L respectively. It was concluded that with adding of surfactant to one distlled water, surface tension of the liquid decreased and smaller bubbles were produced in comparison with pure water. So, surfactants presence enhanced specific interfacial area of contact between the phases although volumetric mass and heat transfer coefficients or VMTC and VHTC reduced. Changing the hydrodynamic characteristics of system had similar results on two recent phenomena. Thereby reducing VMTC confirms VHTC reduction and vice versa. Furthermore, the riser installation enhanced the volumetric mass and heat transfer coefficients compared to simple column by increasing liquid flow turbulency and decreasing bubbles size.
