A new composite material adsorbent was prepared by grafting Chitosan (CTS) with -cyclodextrin (-CD–CTS). The prepared composite adsorbent was firstly characterized by FTIR, SEM and XRD. After characterization, the composite adsorbent (-CD–CTS) was potentially studied for sorption of p-nitrophenol (p-NP). Effects of various factors, including adsorbent dosage, initial p-NP concentration and contact time, on the adsorption of p-NP from aqueous solutions by the resulting composite were studied by batch adsorption experiments. The adsorption kinetics was investigated using three kinetic models and was found to follow the Elovich kinetic model. Also, the equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by some isotherm models and showed that well described by the Langmuir isotherm model.
