New azo-azomethine dye (HL) was synthesized via condensation reaction of 4-ethylaniline with sulfanilic acid substituted azo-coupled salicylaldehyde. The prepared HL dye was characterized by IR, UV–vis and 1H NMR spectroscopic methods as well as elemental analyses. The electrochemical behavior of the HL dye has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry in DMSO at five different scan rates. Furthermore, the 1H chemical shielding of the azo-azomethine dye was studied by the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) and continuous set of gauge transformations (CSGTs) methods at the level of density functional theory (DFT).
