Water is one of the vital requirements of humankind and depending on the growth of the world’s population, the rate of the water pollution increases. Synthetic dyes have been widely used in many industries such as textile, paper, tannery, food and pharmacy. The effluent discharge from these industries has destructive effects on the environment. So wastewater treatment has an important role in human life quality. In order to removal of these pollutants from wastewater, many methods have been found in which green methods are the safest method in comparison with other chemical and electrochemical methods. In this study, the potential of lentic plants for bioremoval of a solution containing methylene blue dye was investigated. The effect of operational parameters such as initial dye concentration, reaction time, mass of plant and pH on the efficiency of biological decolorization process was examined. Methylene blue was removed up to 97% from aqueous solution by Lemna Gibba under the optimized experimental conditions. Ability of the plant in succeeding removal under long term sequential tests approved the green removal process.
