Politeness strategies in Shahnameh

This study aimed to investigate politeness strategy and speech act of order and request in Shahname, the Persian Book of Kings, by Abolqasem Ferdowsi. For this purpose the Authors examined verbs that were common in Shahname context and searched the Shahname’s stories to study them base on politeness strategy and speech act of order and request. Around 08 verbs had found in the stories with the speech act of order and request. Around 08 times they used to request and they had some kind of advice in their meaning when they were used for request by the speaker in different context. In the stories which were examined around 08 verbs in the contexts were used for ordering. And all of them were used in negative politeness strategy. It shows that Ferdowsi considered all the aspect of politeness theory which means that although at the time of Ferdowsi there were not any subjects and theories like politeness theory and is one of new knowledge as politeness theory; Ferdowsi considered and used politeness strategies in his poems and stories.
