In this paper a new approach is investigated to extract the Iris and pupil localization. Iris detection is computational intensive work in the overall iris biometric processing. In this study we proposed a technique to localize iris part efficiently and accurately. This paper includes two stages: The first stage is related to finding the center and radius of pupil. In this stage, the problem of pupil non-uniformity which may exist in some images is solved and the pupil is detected. Then in another stage a new approach which is based on circular arc search, is investigated for extraction of iris. Our approach has been applied in the CASIA standard database. The high accuracy and rate for localization are the advantages of our approach with respect to other approaches
