The purpose of the current study is to investigate the effectiveness of different models of droplet break-up and to compare a few of a diesel engine’s spray characteristics, numerically. An in-house computational fluid dynamics code is used to solve the nonlinear transport equations coupled with dispersed phase equations in a Eulerian-Lagrangian manner. For this purpose, we used three outstanding breakup models in a constant volume chamber to investigate exactly their performance and not to include other factors’ effect on the results. Final results depicted that a novel model which has been proposed by the author shows better predictions in calculating spray tip penetration in comparison to available experimental data. So it is recommended that by using this model, a more precise simulation of in-cylinder flows will be achieved.
