This paper presents a novel approach for simulating transient behavior of a single spool Turbofan engine using Inter-Component Volume (ICV) method. The method is relies on the saved mass for the compressor and turbine to simulate their transient behavior. In this method, by considering the pressure and temperature fluctuations, caused by saved mass, a more precise model is obtained. In particular, given the thermodynamic conditions of air and engine characteristics, the fluctuation in airplane’s velocity, due to the change in the fuel flow rate, is predicted by simulating the governing engine dynamic equations. In the proposed dynamic model, airplane velocity as an effective variable on the engine’s inlet mass flow rate, is considered that makes the results more precise. The proposed method can be utilized to enhance the control performance by providing more accurate model of the dynamics.
