Determination of the extent of damage and the wound severity on live targets is a critical issue investigated by researchers. However, since these tests cannot be directly performed on live targets, they have to be first simulated on ballistic gelatin. Various parameters involved in this process have to be then examined. In this research a total of 4 shots were fired. The shots were fired using spherical projectiles at different velocities. Also to simulate the penetration of a projectile into gelatin, the software requires the equation of state and the modeling coefficients of the gelatin. Therefore, the mechanical properties needed for the simulation were determined using a number of mechanical tests on the gelatin specimens including Split-Hopkinson pressure bar and the quasi-static compression tests. Finally, the process was simulated using finite element software, and the effects of different parameters on the process were discussed.
