The system under investigation comprises a linear oscillator coupled to a nonlinear energy sink (NES) under harmonic forcing. The NES is a small mass which is attached to the primary system via a linear damper and nonlinear spring. Nonlinear energy sinks (NES) have been shown to be effective for vibration attenuation under certain conditions. We study periodic and quasiperiodic response regimes of the system via complex averaging method and evaluate the abilities. In this paper, one parameter and two parameter bifurcations diagrams are presented to show instabilities of solutions. The obtained results give guideline on the effect of NES on dynamic behavior of system.
