Three-dimensional numerical investigations were carried out on heat transfer and flow in seven microchannel heat sink (MCHS) configurations and their performance has been compared with the conventional microchannel heat sink. Seven microchannels including straight, converging-straight, diverging-straight, spiral, converging-spiral, diverging-spiral and a novel double interconnected spiral have been designed. Numerical analysis has been performed with constant heat applied to the bottom surface of each channel at different Reynolds numbers. Converging-spiral has the highest heat transfer but with large pressure drop trade-off. Double interconnected spiral found to be the best in performance with higher heat transfer and reasonable pressure drop due to the better vortex generation.
