Line as the main constituent of shape exists in different phases of an architectural project. Architects concern with shape from the very first abstract design to the perceivable lines of a building. Despite of many endeavors to use shape rules in architectural design, the ambiguous essence of shape limits the application of them in design process. In contrast, this study makes an effort to apply shapes rules in building analysis, like algebraic operations for lines introduced in the shape grammars. Thus, this investigation by applying the shape grammar rules aims to analyze the visible line in a building, and find the disharmonious mismatches between the visible lines of a building under different conditions. Consequently, five different case studies examines the proposed analysis method. Interestingly, the result reflects the discovery of some mismatches between the different appearances of the buildings, which were not recognizable unless by a deep exploration. Finally, the introduced and examined method, testified on real world architecture, can be applied on the simulated architectural projects to discover the concealed mismatched line and prevent the inappropriate architectural disharmonies.
