Background: Epidemiological studies have shown that regular physical activity improves health however the molecular mechanisms behind the beneficial effects have however not been completely elucidated. The aim of present study was to transforming growth factor-a gene expression response to high-intensity interval training in non-active middle-aged men.
Method: Totally 24 healthy non-active men (age= 40-50 years, VO2max: 34.8ml/kg/min, body fat of 26.25%). Volunteers were recruited as subjects and were randomly assigned to control (n=12) and exercise (n=12) groups for an experimental period of 8 weeks. Exercise group performed HIIT training (45 min/day, 3 days/week at 60-90% of heart rate reserve) for 8 weeks. Body composition, VO2 max, BP and transforming growth factor-a gene expression were measured 24 and 48 hours after the training program. Bio Easy Master Mix Kit and Real-time PCR method used for TGF-a gene expression. Our data have been analyzed by independent t-test on SPSS software.
Results: The result showed that exercise can change gene expression and gene pathway. TGF-a gene expression in the exercise group compared to control group showed a significant reduction after 8 week exercise training (p 0.001).
Conclusions: The result showed that exercise training leads to alter the expression of genes that by changing in signaling pathways can ultimately prove beneficial in optimizing the clinical exercise prescription
